Assassinated at 31: The Faith Testimony of Charlie Kirk

Many people will already know the name Charlie Kirk. His assassination on 10th September 2025, shocked America and made headlines around the world. But for those who may not have known much about him before his death, Charlie was an American political activist, speaker and founder of Turning Point USA who became particularly well known for taking his message directly onto university campuses.

Charlie would sit before crowds of students and openly invite those who disagreed with him to come forward and debate him. Clips of these exchanges were watched by millions online, and by the time of his death, he had become one of the most recognisable conservative voices in America.

On September 10, Charlie was doing exactly that at Utah Valley University in Utah when he was shot and killed. He was only 31 years old.

Much has been written about Charlie’s politics and beliefs since his death, but there was another part of his life that he repeatedly said mattered more than any political movement, debate or achievement: his faith in Jesus Christ.

When Charlie was once asked directly whether he was a Christian, he replied:

“Very, very much so. Jesus saved my life. I’m a sinner, gave my life to Christ, the most important decision I ever made.”

Charlie Kirk’s Christian Conversion

Charlie was raised in a Christian home and attended Christian Heritage Academy, but his faith became personal when he was around 11 years old. He later spoke about hearing the Gospel and beginning to understand the seriousness of sin and his own need for salvation.

Charlie recognised that he could not save himself. He believed Jesus Christ had lived the perfect life that he could not live and had died in the place of sinners. He described himself as a sinner who had received something he could never earn: the free gift of eternal life.

This became fundamental to Charlie’s understanding of Christianity. Salvation wasn’t something that could be achieved by being a good person, following religious rules or performing enough good works. It was a gift from God made possible through Jesus Christ.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
Ephesians 2:8

Throughout his life, Charlie continued to describe himself simply as a sinner saved by grace.

“Jesus Saved My Life”

Although millions knew Charlie because of politics, he was increasingly outspoken about Christianity. He regularly spoke about Jesus during interviews, podcasts, speeches and conversations with young people.

At the centre of Charlie’s faith was the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He described the resurrection as the “pinpoint” of his belief. Christianity, for Charlie, rested upon the truth that Jesus Christ died and physically rose from the dead.

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.”
Matthew 28:6

Charlie also believed the Bible was true, reliable and authoritative. He encouraged people to read Scripture and believed applying biblical teaching to your life could radically change the way you lived.

But his message wasn’t simply “live a better life.” Charlie believed every human being had a much deeper problem: sin.

A Sinner Saved by Grace

Charlie never presented himself as a perfect person. In fact, when talking about Christianity, he openly called himself a sinner.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23

One of Charlie’s explanations of the Gospel used the picture of a courtroom. Imagine standing before God knowing every wrong thing you had ever done. The sentence is about to be given, but then someone innocent steps forward and offers to take your punishment instead.

Charlie explained that this is grace.

Jesus Christ took the punishment sinners deserved upon Himself at the cross so that those who trust in Him can be forgiven.

You don’t earn salvation. You don’t buy it. You cannot become good enough to deserve it. It is a gift.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23

“You Must Be Born Again”

Charlie frequently spoke about the need to be born again, echoing the words of Jesus:

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:3

Being born again is more than simply calling yourself a Christian, growing up in a Christian family or attending church. It means recognising your sin, repenting and placing your faith in Jesus Christ as your Saviour.

Charlie described committing your life to Christ as one of the most freeing and liberating things a person could ever do.

For someone who had never trusted Jesus, he believed there was no more important decision they could make.

Standing for What He Believed

Charlie’s Christianity wasn’t something he kept separate from the rest of his life. His faith influenced his views on morality, abortion, marriage, sexuality, family, education and society.

He believed Christians should be willing to stand publicly for biblical truth even when doing so was unpopular.

This made him a controversial figure, but Charlie was also known for doing something increasingly unusual: he invited people who disagreed with him to talk to him.

Rather than only speaking to audiences who already agreed with him, Charlie travelled onto university campuses and allowed students with completely opposing beliefs to challenge him directly.

Millions watched these conversations online.

People could agree or disagree with his politics, but Charlie made no secret about the foundation beneath his worldview. He believed in God, believed the Bible was true and believed Jesus Christ was the only way of salvation.

What Really Matters in Life?

By the age of 31, Charlie had achieved more public success than many people achieve in a lifetime. He had founded Turning Point USA, travelled around the world, met world leaders, flown aboard Air Force One and built an enormous media platform.

Yet when reflecting upon his life, Charlie said these weren’t the things that ultimately mattered.

What mattered was your relationship with God, the people closest to you and your relationship with truth.

It brings to mind the words of Jesus:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Mark 8:36

Money disappears. Fame disappears. Political influence disappears. Even our lives eventually come to an end.

Our relationship with God has eternal consequences.

How Charlie Kirk Wanted to Be Remembered

One of the most striking comments Charlie made before his death came when he was asked how he wanted to be remembered.

His answer wasn’t for founding Turning Point USA. It wasn’t for politics, his millions of followers or the countless debates that had made him famous.

Charlie said that if he could be associated with one thing, he wanted to be remembered for courage and his faith, adding that his faith would be the most important thing.

Those words became especially poignant after September 10, 2025.

Charlie went to Utah Valley University to do something he had done countless times before. He sat before a crowd and opened the conversation to questions.

He could not have known that he would never leave that event alive.

The Bible says:

“For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
James 4:14

Charlie Kirk’s life ended at only 31 years old.

None of us knows when our own final day will come.

“The Most Important Decision I Ever Made”

For those who already knew Charlie Kirk, his name will probably always be associated with Turning Point USA, American politics and his university debates.

For those who only discovered his story following his assassination, there is another part of his life worth knowing.

Charlie Kirk openly professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour.

He acknowledged that he was a sinner. He believed Jesus Christ died for his sins and rose again. He believed salvation was a free gift that could never be earned through good works.

And when asked about his own decision to follow Christ, Charlie called it:

“The most important decision I ever made.”

His sudden death is also a reminder of something none of us particularly likes to think about: we are not promised tomorrow.

The Gospel Charlie spoke about is offered to every one of us today. Jesus Christ died upon the cross for sinners and rose again. The Bible teaches that those who repent and place their faith in Him can receive forgiveness and eternal life.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
Acts 16:31

Charlie didn’t know when his final day would arrive.

Neither do you or I.

The question isn’t simply whether you agreed with Charlie Kirk.

The far greater question is:

Where do you stand with Jesus Christ?

A Prayer of Salvation

If you recognise that you are a sinner and want to place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you can call upon Him today. The prayer itself isn’t what saves you. Salvation comes through genuine repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. But if these words reflect what you truly believe in your heart, you can pray:

“Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that You died for me and rose again. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. I repent of my sins and put my faith in You. Please forgive me, come into my life and save me. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for Your grace and for the gift of eternal life. Amen.”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:13

Charlie Kirk described giving his life to Jesus Christ as “the most important decision I ever made.”
